GP: Петренко будет работать с Ламбиелем!!! A fresh start June 6, 2008 After finishing at a disappointing fifth place at the World Championships 2008 in Gothenburg, StЁ¦phane has taken time to think about his future. He came to the conclusion that certain changes were necessary. Of course, he goes on with his career but splits with coach Peter GrЁ№tter. The pair had been working together since 1995, with a short break in 2004. StЁ¦phane: Ў°It has been a difficult decision. I owe a lot to Peter GrЁ№tter. We part on good terms and remain friends.Ў± With eyes set on the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver, StЁ¦phane will now be coached by Viktor Petrenko, 1992 Olympic champion in Albertville, and Galina Zmievskaya, PetrenkoЎЇs former coach. Stephane has found optimal training conditions in Wayne, N.J. (United States).

GP: Stephane Lambiel Moving To New Jersey It seems as though New Jersey is becoming a hotspot in the World of figure skating. Stйphane Lambiel, the 2006 Olympic silver medalist and a two-time World champion (2005-06), has split from his long-time coach to move to New Jersey and train at the Ice Vault. Lambiel recently parted ways with his coach of 13 years, Peter Grьtter. The Swiss star will train in Wayne, N.J. under the direction of 1992 Olympic gold champion Viktor Petrenko. After taking most of the 2006-07 season off Lambiel claimed the silver medal at the 2007 World Championships. In 2008, he finished fifth. Lambiel will start working towards the 2010 Olympic Winter Games under Petrenko and Petrenko's former coach and mother-in-law Galina Zmievskaya, according to the website swissinfo.ch. Already training at the Ice Vault with Zmievskaya is Johnny Weir, who won his first World medal, a bronze, at the 2008 World Championships. Petrenko, 38, is part of Weir’s coaching team. Weir has not commented on the move, but he has said he went to Zmievskaya, in part, for the exclusivity she offered. http://www.ifsmagazine.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=576

GP: Джонни об этом ничего не знал... Stephane LambielЎЇs Move a Surprise to Johnny Weir Reports today indicating a relocation and coaching change by StЁ¦phane Lambiel, a two-time World champion (2005-06), to the New Jersey Ice Vault training rink of reigning World bronze medalist Johnny Weir came as an early morning surprise to many in the skating world ЁC including Weir. Ў°The first I heard about it was when I woke up to an incoming rush of text messages from friends in Europe and Russia. Everyone was looking for confirmation, but I had nothing to tell them,Ў± Weir said. Weir crescendoed to a first World medal last season under the firm training discipline of noted Ukrainian coach Galina Zmievskaya, who was assisted by her former student, 1992 Olympic champion Viktor Petrenko. At that time, Weir, now 23, left his longtime coach, family and home to train under Zmievskaya, in a bid to regain his national title on the road to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic podium. With a deal struck for Lambiel to train with Petrenko as his primary coach, three-time national champion Weir will have to share ice time ЁC and the coaching duoЎЇs attention ЁC with the 23-year old Olympic silver medalist Lambiel. According to Weir, Petrenko only arrived back on New Jersey ice last Monday, after a trip home to the Ukraine, where he was elected vice president of the Ukrainian Figure Skating Federation. During PetrenkoЎЇs trip abroad, Lambiel spent a few days in New Jersey working with Zmievskaya. Ў°Russians work as a team, so itЎЇs not unusual that StЁ¦phane was skating with Galina (Zmievskaya),Ў± Weir said. Ў°I imagine that StЁ¦phane will now probably also work with the same Pilates instructor I have, and perhaps the same masseuse.Ў± Asked how he viewed the prospect of sharing a coaching team that until now had been exclusively devoted to his training, Weir explained, Ў°StЁ¦phane and I go way back. At my very first international event, in 1998, we competed against each other in Slovenia. WeЎЇve known each other a long time and a strange Ў®rivalry yet friendshipЎЇ has developed between us.Ў± Recently Weir performed in Korea. When he returned home last week, he said he was a bit surprised to find another top level skater trying out with his coaches. Ў°If you take the top 10 men's skaters in the world, I canЎЇt imagine one IЎЇd get along better with than StЁ¦phane,Ў± said Weir. Ў°HeЎЇs a good guy, a great skater, and I think he can do great things for the Ice Vault rink and for my coaching team.Ў± Lambiel and Petrenko have skated together in ice shows over the years, including the Champions on Ice tour. Weir noted that Petrenko, and his wife and choreographer Nina Petrenko, often commented on their admiration for the Swiss skaters style and on-ice artistry. Ў°Galina and Viktor got back their top level coach status with the transformation they did on me last season. ItЎЇs good to see that recognized,Ў± said Weir. Ў°Last season, under Galina and Viktor, I beat StЁ¦phane more than I lost to him. Weir admits things could become too cozy for comfort once the competitive season gets underway. Ў°I havenЎЇt personally decided if it will be beneficial for me to train with another elite skater," he said. "We both want to be the next Olympic champion, and to do that, it will be a fight for all of the titles until Vancouver. To have a rival training next to me, on the ice doing run-throughs, observing every move I make is something I havenЎЇt experienced and until I do, I cannot know whether IЎЇll like it or I wonЎЇt. But, I hope this arrangement can push us both to work hard and conquer the world.Ў± http://www.ifsmagazine.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=577
